WOW it has been almost a month since I've blogged.  Sorry to all my followers.  We have been getting into our routine and not been doing much newsworthy stuff.  We did get to visit with Ronen & Ania and their kids a few times since they have been here.  They will be leaving tomorrow evening and we hope to get to see them one more time (I've got some mail I want them to take back to the US with them......LOL) before they leave.  Man, I've never seen kids with so much hair!!

We had Passover dinner at Mark and Sylvia's.  It was very interesting and elaborate.  There were about 31 people there, it reminded me of Christmas at home.  A very festive time, gift exchanging (for the kids) and LOTS of food.

Roly has been off work for Passover for about a week now and won't return to work until Tuesday I think.  We have been being kinda lazy and just hanging out.  We did go to Caesarea with Chuck and Lisa yesterday.  I didn't take any pictures because it was COLD, RAINING and WINDY!!  We will go back another time when it is nicer and we can enjoy it.  I will also blog about Caesarea as it is a very interesting place.

Danit & Ombri (I'm not sure I spelled that right?)

Bahai Gardens, Haifa, Israel

This is a small waterfall on each side of the steps all the way down; the sound of it was beautiful!

Roly and his big brother Mark

The building in the center is the worship building (it was under some construction at the time we visited)

WOW.......totally amazing.  Not sure there are other words for it.......well, in Hebrew I'm sure there are......LOL.  We went to the Bahai Gardens in Haifa with Mark and Sylvia.  You can see from the pictures it was beautiful.  Bahai is a type of religion, I don't know much about it but I do know that anyone of the belief must visit the garden once in their lifetime.  We walked down about 650 stairs; I didn't feel it that day, but my legs sure felt it the next day, and the next day and the next day......you get the picture.  We then went to an Arabic place for lunch; leg of lamb (HUGE leg) with rice and veggies.  They start you out with a table FULL of different types of salads and dips.  It was delish!!  Dessert was the best; some type of pastry filled with a cheese (like cottage cheese) then topped with a simple syrup.

WE ARE MOVED IN!  We have actually been staying at the apartment since Tuesday but today is the first time I was able to get any Wi-Fi and post anything.  We didn't have anything but a bed until today.  Today we got our kitchen table and chairs, office desk and chair and patio furniture.  We are feeling so good to finally have a place to sit besides on the bed.  It is so wonderful here, right now I'm typing to you all from my new patio furniture.  It is a beautiful night, the day was awesome.  We went to "the Shook" (Carmel Market, like Soulard in St. Louis only MUCH bigger) and bought some fresh spices, fruit, veggies, chicken, fish and beef.  I'm excited to start cooking again (did I really say that?  LOL).  I will take some pictures and post them later.  Just wanted to let everyone know we are alive and doing very well.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

WOW what a day!  I got up around 7:30 am, had breakfast around 9 and left the hotel by taxi with Lisa and Sheri headed to Jaffa.  They have a free tour in Jaffa, a lady that shows you around, tells you about Jaffa, all the history and culture, etc.  However, upon our arrival in Jaffa, all we saw were military people EVERYWHERE, helicopters and lots of guns.  From what one person (with a large camera) said, there was going to be a "march".  Lisa and I decided immediately we would NOT stay around for the "march" (protest is what we were thinking) so we left.  We did walk because we didn't want to wait for a taxi.  We ended up going to Carmel Market.  So glad we did!!  Since it was Wednesday (Tuesday and Friday is VERY busy due to the local crafters) we really got to take our time and look at all the stands.  It is amazing how big that place is.  We found some wonderful fruit, veggie and meat stands we can't wait to try.

We then headed back to Hilton.  My Lord I had no idea it was that far.  I've never walked that much in one day in my life!!  It was a truly beautiful day and we did enjoy the walk.  I kept thinking "taxi" but I pushed on and walked the entire way.  We watched a guy "walking" along the beach doing karate kicking.  I was laughing so hard.......it was so funny!

We decided that when we got back we would go to the beach (for the first time!!).  Of course we came upon an ice cream stand and realized that would make the rest of the walk so much faster.  I had Creme Brulee.........YUMMY!

Got back to the hotel around 1 and headed to the beach.  We had to pay 12 NIS (about $3.50) for a lounge chair but it was totally worth it.  The view was wonderful and I got TONS of sun (maybe a little too much).  Lots of kids paying this game on the beach; they use two extra large ping pong paddles and a small rubber ball and just hit it back and forth kinda like tennis.  It looked really cool and we found out it is very popular here.  Then we saw the true sight of the day..........this guy (about 35ish??) walks to the water IN HIS UNDERWEAR!!  I about died laughing.  Then he lays down on the sand in front of everyone.  Then gets up, walks towards us and winds up laying down in the sand again and just stares at these other two young girls for about 20 mins.  He had glasses with those clip on sun glass things and he flipped the sun glass part up so you could totally tell he was just staring at these girls.  By this time he has his white dress shirt on too; along with his dress shoes.  He was also carrying two plastic bags.  The he pulls out a carton of milk and starts drinking it.  I totally lost it then.  I was laughing so hard I almost fell out of my chair!!  Maybe you had to be there, but it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen!!

Now I'm back in the room waiting for my husband............wonder where dinner will be tonight?

What a sight!!

Today I did some more shopping.  We went to Azreali Mall which is really close to our new apartment.  I think it might be my favorite mall.  It has a really nice grocery store and lots of other fun stores.

Dinner at Rusticos with the gang.  Very good Italian food and Mojitos!!

ICKY day today.  Lots of rain, does anyone feel sorry for us?  LOL  On the other hand, I'm VERY excited today.  Things are starting to move along with our apartment.  Forms are getting filled out and things are progressing!!  YEAH!!

Grandpa is doing much better.  Still no idea what he really had (it was not a stroke or seizure) but they are doing test and going to find out!

Roly and I went for a walk last night.  Back to Ace, it is becoming my favorite place.  LOL  It is totally different from the Ace at home.  The sign and building look the same but it is what is inside that counts.........right?  LOL  Then we tried a burger place.  Never again!!  It looked like a Hardees but didn't taste like one.  Their "potatoes" were good but that is about it.  Service is about what it is in the states........AWFUL when it comes to fast food.
