December 23 through December 27, 2011

Bad Nauheim Germany - I wanted to go someplace cold for Christmas.  Turns out Germany was a great choice.  It was cold, windy and a bit misty most of the time.  It was also my choice because it is where Elvis stayed when he was in the service.  And as it turns out our hotel was DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET from Hotel Grunwald where Elvis stayed (he initially stayed at Parkhotel but it was demolished in 1989).  Elvis rented an entire floor of this hotel and brought his father, grandmother and two of his friends/body guards to stay with him.  Unfortunately the room he stayed in (which as been preserved in it's original state) is no longer accessible.

Besides Elvis, Germany is popular as a health and wellness experience.  It also has lots of parks and tons of culture.

At the airport in Amsterdam, my first real Christmas sightings!

a view from the courtyard of our hotel

More of the courtyard (part of the hotel is in the back); you can see in the center Hotel Grunwald

Hotel Grunwald (where Elvis stayed)

One of the many quaint streets in Bad Nauheim

Taken especially for Scott!

Mexican food too

This is one very beautiful church!

Our first very authentic German meal; pork wrapped in bacon, red cabbage (kinda sweet) and some type of potato ball

Our room

Our balcony!

Our Christmas decoration in our room.....:)

This was in the hotel on our way outside; I saw it every day and thought it was pretty

The Elvis monument.......LOL

Wildlife in Germany

The Sprudelhof with bathhouses; the large hot spring fountain is the symbol of Bad Nauheim

As you can see, people still leave stuff in memory of The King

Obviously that is Hotel Grunwald in the background

I have no idea what this is but it looked really cool, kinda like popcorn

Burnt popcorn

At a coffee shop (Kaffeemuhlchen) where we had coffee a couple of times

What a tiny car!

Back in the courtyard of our hotel

On the streets of Germany

One of the many shopping streets

There were several trees like this throughout town

More wildlife

This is where we had our last dinner in town and it was wonderful.  We were the only people in the restaurant and our food was made to order.

It took us a long time, but we finally found this exact spot and took our pictures too!
